HERS Testing, which stands for Home Energy Rating System, is an inspection required by the state of California whenever a heating, air conditioning or ductwork alteration is performed in your home. HERS Verification testing ensures that all installations are performed to the best standards and follow all California Energy Commission (CEC) regulations and criteria. Different HERS testing is required depending on the type of installation that was performed in your home.
The final step of your project is signing off on your city or county permit. The inspector will want a copy of the final HERS Test results when he/she arrives at your home. CalRATERS is here to help each homeowner meet the requirements with as much ease and simplicity as possible. Our certified raters will go above and beyond while performing the HERS Testing and our office staff will provide you with the final paperwork you need to complete your project and sign off on your permit! Duct leakage testing is a HERS measure that is required in all climate zones with any new furnace, air conditioner and/or ductwork installation.
The purpose of total duct leakage testing is to effectively measure how much air is leaking from your duct system into areas you don’t want it heating or cooling and to verify that the ductwork has been properly sealed to California standards.
Airflow testing is a HERS measure that is required in most climate zones when a new air conditioner and/or new ductwork is installed.
The purpose of an airflow test is to verify that the proper amount of airflow is going to the cooling unit. If proper airflow is not going to the cooling coils, ice build could up will occur in the coils which can lead to compressor failure.
Refrigerant charge testing is a HERS measure that is required in most climate zones when a new air conditioner is installed.
The purpose of refrigerant charge verification is to determine whether or not the cooling system has the correct amount of refrigerant “charge” needed to properly cool your home based on the factory specifications for that particular air conditioner and climate zone. This will ensure that your air conditioner is cooling properly on those hot summer days.
