Our Home Energy Audit is the best way to find energy inefficiencies in your home. We perform advanced home energy testing and look at your home as a whole, determining the exact causes for wasted energy. Each audit includes a detailed report of your home's specific energy concerns and recommendations.
Our Advanced Home Energy Audit will help you understand the whole picture of your home's energy use and will help you determine how much energy your home uses, where your home is losing energy, and which problem areas you should address to make your home more energy efficient and comfortable.
According to the Energy Star program, half the energy an average home consumes in a given year is devoted to heating and cooling your home. If your home uses older, inefficient equipment, or if your home has never undergone energy efficient improvements, there's probably a lot of energy and money going to waste. The average American household spends more than $2,000 on energy bills, so any steps taken to save on energy will make a big improvement.
An energy audit is the perfect place to start saving money and is a great first step before making any energy saving home improvements.
Our home energy audit starts with a whole home assessment. Our BPI Building Analyst will perform a thorough assessment of your home's energy use inside and outside. We will look at everything in your home that could be a potential waste of energy. Our Assessment includes a 12 month analysis of your PG&E bills as well as:
After we perform the full inspection of your home, we will continue your energy audit with our advanced home energy testing. This is a way to really fine tune the results of your home energy audit and tell us even more about energy loss in your home. We will perform the following tests:
After your Home Energy Audit is complete, we will compile all of the results and provide you with a detailed report of our findings. This comprehensive analysis of your home includes a 30+ page report of everything we found in your home. It provides pictures, recommendations and estimated savings if home upgrades are made.
We will also provide you with your Home Energy Score (between 1-10, where 10 equals the most efficient home). This report is generated with some of the same criteria found during the Home Energy Audit.
In addition to your report, we will provide you with a list of recommendations to make your home more energy efficient. Each recommendation will give you information on how much you can save by making that particular upgrade. We will discuss each recommendation with you and help you make the best decisions for your budget and your home.
We work with some of the best contractors in the industry and we will happily recommend a licensed contractor that can help you with the upgrades you choose.

We may recommend sealing or replacing your ductwork if it is older, in poor condition or leaking. The average duct system leaks approximately 30% causing energy loss and less comfort in your home. There are rebates available up to $800 for a new duct system.
We will look at the existing insulation to make sure it is in good condition, correctly installed and applied evenly. We will also evaluate the holes where electrical lines run to see if they are properly sealed or could be a source of leakage.

We will perform this test to determine the exact total leakage of your duct system. A duct blaster is attached to your duct system to measure the air tightness and determine how much conditioned heat or air is being lost through your ductwork.
Ductwork can be one of the biggest sources of energy loss in a home. An older duct system that is in poor condition or has not been properly sealed can leak approximately 30% of the conditioned air into your attic or crawlspace instead of bringing that air into your home. Leaking ducts can create a less comfortable and potentially unhealthy home by pulling in pollutants from your attic, crawlspace or garage.
We will perform this test to locate air leaks in the home. A blower door is a powerful fan mounted unit that we will install in your main doorway. It works by depressurizing your home (blowing the air out of the house to temporarily lower the air pressure inside). The pressure of the outdoor air causes the air to flow into the house through all unsealed openings, revealing any undetected leaks.
Air leaks are one of the most common and unknown cause of energy loss in a home. They are usually found near or around doors, windows, electric outlets, vents, recessed lighting and other areas. To make your home as energy efficient as possible it should be as airtight as possible, while still allowing proper air exchange with the outside.
